How did you get into tabletop gaming?
Over 6 years ago my best friend, at the time, asked if I’d be interested to join in her boyfriend’s first DM attempt in a Star Wars rpg with a handful of our mutual friends. Daniel, our DM, was motivated to start this group because his friend and former DM passed away suddenly.
What do you love about tabletop games?
The character creation! I love seeing the progression from idea/concept to backstory to first drawings and finally embodying the character when you sit at the table. Also trying to critically think as the character you’re playing in a variety of fantastical situations.
Have you overcome any obstacles in tabletop gaming?
I’ve been lucky to have played with several groups of open and accepting players and DMs. But I’ve experienced gatekeeping and harassment with other fandoms through cosplay and video games.
What would your advice be to women who are interested in tabletop gaming?
Get your favorite people together and do it. Have fun, be creative! It’s a learning experience! If you have a good group of people you trust and enjoy spending your energy and time with, it’ll make your first experience really special and that energy will keep you wanting to share this experience with more friends.
What kind of characters are you drawn to play?
Strong women, reserved bada** or outlaw with a heart of gold.
Is there a woman in tabletop who you think we should highlight?
Amber Reeder-Vega (@ambulartastic) from PerceptionStudio, Amanda Joyce (@doveuncaged) from Dice Fiends. Amber plays ttrpg w/ puppets and Amanda is one of my fellow heroines from my first RPG and several current home campaigns.
